Bamboo vs steel: match the scaffolding to the job
Choosing the right type of scaffolding is the most important first step, because it affects cost, safety, and how fast the work goes. Most Bangkok sites choose between bamboo and steel scaffolding, and each suits a different kind of job. It is not that one is always better than the other.
Bamboo scaffolding suits jobs that are not very tall and do not run for long, such as repainting a two-storey townhouse, installing shop signage, ceiling work, or running AC lines along walls up to 4-5 metres. It is quick to assemble, light, easy to carry into narrow Bangkok lanes or up older buildings, and cheap per piece. The trade-off is that it carries less load and is not suited to work that stays up for many weeks.
Steel scaffolding suits jobs that need high stability, that carry workers and materials on the deck at the same time, or that run continuously for weeks, such as wall plastering, structural work, or jobs that change height often. It is strong, stacks several tiers high, and locks together more firmly, in exchange for more weight and slightly longer setup.
A simple rule: for light work that is not tall and is time-sensitive, look at bamboo first; for load-bearing or long jobs, choose steel. If you are still unsure, compare the details and rates of both on the scaffolding hub, or call and describe the job so the team can advise before you decide.
